Awarded a grant by the DC Commission on Arts and Humanities, we created this site-specific design at 6th and O (oh) Street NW in honor of DC jazz legend Shirley Horn. She grew up, performed, and attended school nearby. The design reflects sound wave patterns of Horn’s music, abstracted into our signature vibrant style. Each element illustrates a specific instrument of her compositions: Yellow lines = piano; white circles = percussion; turqouise ribbon =. vocals; lilac blobs = everything else! The gradient background encourages people on the sidewalk to follow the mural from one side to the next moving around the corner.
